So one of my goals this year was to organise more styled shoots to give me room to play and explore and grow. So the idea is to do something new every quarter so I am constantly pushing myself and I have to say, it's been quite a rewarding process. In January, we had the Bridal Beach Photoshoot, which was super fun. This time I wanted to go in a completely different direction and do some beauty work in the studio that was more focused on the subject that the environment. I also wanted to do something that I hadn't seen done in the local beauty space, which was how the idea of Floral Couture was born at like 2am one morning.
Now I have an unhealthy obsession with fresh flowers and I never get to work with them enough in Lagos. I also have an unhealthy obsession with my favourite florist in Lagos, Oghogho of Aralia by Nature. I call her the floral goddess because she is so passionate about creating and is truly gifted at what she does. So our conversation basically went like this:
Me: Oghogho, I want you to create some amazing floral pieces that can be used as accessories so I can shoot them
Oghogho: Ooh, what would you like?
Me: Whatever you want, I trust you - just go crazy!
Oghogho: <Dam of ideas burst forth>
Me: <happy dance> let's do this!
I really love what Oghogho came up with and I kept the styling simple so the focus was on the pieces themselves. What I really wanted to convey was the idea of flowers as wearable art and I think we achieved that with this shoot.
We had a wonderful creative team, with the one and only Dupe of TasalaHQ on hair and Omon of BeautyCook Studio working her magic on makeup.
Catch22 Models, Bolutiwi and Adepero also did a great job bringing our final vision to life.
Also a shout out to Adetola of Salako Adetola Photography for assisting on the day.
For the photographers, gear used: Canon 5D MkIII, 50mm, Elinchrom strobes and a tonne of reflectors.
We were super excited to have this shoot featured on Genevieve and here are the list of people who made it happen:
Let's start with the slideshow, which includes some behind of the scenes of the shoot:
And now some of my favourite images...enjoy 🙂
