Ahh, welcome welcome to the very first WOP Vendor Spotlight - yippee!!!
There are so many amazingly talented individuals in the Lagos wedding industry and I decided to start this series to showcase some of my favourite vendors to date. As a wedding photographer in Lagos, I am always on the lookout for top of the line vendors who provide top-notch service to their clients as this is the philosophy and vision I am constantly working towards in my business. I love to refer professionals I have worked with and who I truly believe will do an amazing job for my clients. Over the coming weeks, I will be showcasing a diverse range of vendors - you can think of them as the dream team that I think every bride should have to help you plan that wedding of your dreams. 🙂 Â
I am so excited to start this series off with my favourite decor / event manager / pure genius that is Newton and David (previously blogged about here, here and here). Under the guidance of the incredibly talented and passionate Mrs Uche Majekodunmi, this company has evolved from a humble floral company to a multi-faceted design house that is synonymous with beauty, elegance and class. Without further ado, I introduce to you...the ever fabulous, Newton & David (images provided by Newton & David unless indicated otherwise, contact details at the end of the post):Â
1.   How long have you been in the wedding business?Â
Newton and David Events has been in the wedding and event business for over 22 years.
2.   What inspired you to start your business? Â
Passion, my obsession with details and definitely my love for beautiful things.
3.   What do you feel sets you apart from your peers in the wedding industry?Â
There are definitely a lot of creative companies in the wedding and events industry today but at Newton and David I believe our need to constantly grow, improve and build upon our past work in a creative way sets us apart. We’re constantly evolving creatively and we are not afraid to experiment and think outside the box despite the challenges present in Nigeria.
4.   Why decide to go into event management now?Â
Our approach as a company has always been to look at the big picture of the event. When we come up with décor concepts for clients, we envision how guests will be seated (floorplans), the kind of food and drinks they would be served, the entertainment and many others. We’re obsessed with details and event management is all about managing those details to ensure your clients thoroughly enjoy their events and so it only made sense for us to expand our services.Â
5. What do you enjoy most about working in the wedding industry?
Every client is completely different so no two days are ever the same which is great for us as creative people.Â
6. When meeting with brides who don't know much about flowers, what is the biggest tip you find yourself giving them?
First, I try to understand the look and feel they hope to achieve with their wedding. Then I consider factors such as the colour scheme of the wedding and most importantly the client’s budget before finally making suggestions. A lot of people don’t know this but I started out as a florist and so I’m extremely passionate about flowers because they can transform a space especially if used properly.
7. Is there a minimum budget you work with? Â
Yes, the minimum budget we work with is 1,200 Naira per guest and it includes table linen, chair covers, bows, standing props, walkway décor, couple’s area décor, cake table décor and the couple’s car decor. Regardless of the package our clients select, we always aim to transform the event space while exceeding their expectations and contributing to the success of their special day.
8. What current trend in wedding flowers do you personally like the most?Â
We can’t get enough of soft romantic flowers like Peonies and Hydrangeas! We’re currently in love with the soft, lush romantic look, the wild romantic look with cascading flowers and vines as well as the shabby chic trend that utilizes a lot of English garden flowers.
9. Any interesting facts we should know that will make you even more fabulous? 🙂Â
I love to connect with my clients and get a sense of their core selves. I’ve found that once that is done, it makes the creative process a lot easier because we’re then able to deliver an event based on the client’s personality.
