This is the first of a 2 part post for Ozege and Goriola's wedding held in Benin (the city not the country). I have never been to Benin before, so I was definitely excited to shoot a wedding in a different part of the country and was keen to see how the Benin traditional wedding differed from the Yoruba ones that I had previously shot.
Unfortunately, although the traditional wedding had been planned for the Friday, it turned out that since Friday was a market day and it is against Benin tradition to give your daughter away on a market day, the traditional ceremony i.e. paying of the dowry had to be done on the Thursday instead. However, the celebrations and presentation of gifts still happened on Friday, which is the event I was able to shoot below.
Ozege and Goriola are genuinely lovely people and this was evidenced by all the love and support they received from both family and friends during their events. Everyone just seemed genuinely happy, which made for a pretty fantastic atmosphere.
Thanks guys for allowing me to share your special day with you - I had a lot of fun. Here are some of my favourite images from the day - I hope you like them. 🙂
Take care
